Effects of Poplar Shelterbelt Plantations on Soil Aggregate Distribution and Organic Carbon in Northeastern China

This study aimed to determine the distribution, stability, and soil organic carbon (SOC) of aggregates, contribution aggregate proportion, stability index, aggregate-associated SOC total SOC. Three hundred sixty samples were gathered from shelterbelts neighboring farmlands in five layers 1 m profiles Songnen Plain, northeastern China. The shelterbelt plantations found increase by 69.5% 103.8% >2 mm 0.25–2 respectively, their R0.25, mean weight diameter (MWD), geometric (GMD) enhanced 96.3%, 33.2%, 40.0%, compared those at 0–20 cm depth (p < 0.05). content increased 13.3% depth, stock aggregates 21.5% 18.7% 20–40 layer 0.05), respectively. had a significantly positive relationship with proportion negative value fractal dimension (D). enhancement was dependent on SOC, larger-particle having greater contribution. Based results, afforestation improved structure accumulation not only governed concentration within size class, but also dimension.
